Meet TaskFollow: Let Your AI Assistant Run Your Routine Work

If you use an AI assistant for work, you probably do the same jobs with it again and again: the inbox, new leads, CRM notes, invoices, meeting follow-ups. Each time, you start the work yourself.

And when the work matters, you add a line like "always ask me before you send anything." That line is a request, not a guarantee.

TaskFollow is our answer to both problems.

What TaskFollow is

TaskFollow is a free companion app that runs on your own computer, with your own assistant and your own subscription. It turns an assistant that can run commands on your computer, like Claude Code or Codex, into one that runs your routine work as workflows, on a schedule, and asks you before anything that matters.

There is no sign-up. It's a free npm package.

What it does

It sets itself up by talking with you. Setup is a conversation, not a settings screen to fill in.

It finds work you repeat and proposes workflows. Typical examples are inbox triage, new leads, CRM notes, invoices and meeting follow-ups.

It runs them on a schedule. You don't start each run yourself.

It reports where you already are. Results arrive in your chat, Telegram, email or Slack.

It asks first. Money, legal matters, messages to customers and deletes always wait for your yes.

It explains itself. The taskfollow why command explains what each run did.

Why it runs on your own computer

There are three reasons it runs on your computer rather than as a hosted service.

Your data stays with you. TaskFollow runs on your computer. Nobody else hosts it or sees your data.

You keep your own assistant and subscription. It works through the assistant you already use, on the plan you already pay for.

Approvals the assistant can't bypass. Approvals happen in your own terminal or channel, and the assistant cannot approve for itself.

What you need

  • A Mac, or Windows 11 (Preview)
  • Node 22 or newer
  • An assistant that can run commands on your computer. Claude Code is the most tested.

Web chat assistants such as Claude.ai, ChatGPT or Cowork on the web can't install it, because they can't run commands on your computer.

How to install it

You install TaskFollow by asking your assistant to do it. With Claude Code, open a terminal, make a folder, start claude in it, and paste this prompt:

Please install TaskFollow for me. Run npx --yes taskfollow instructions and follow exactly what it prints. I am not technical: explain each step in plain words and tell me exactly what to click or type.

That's it. TaskFollow takes over from there and sets itself up by talking with you. If you'd like click-by-click help, the START-HERE guide walks through every step.

Connecting hosted Skills Wiki

TaskFollow works on its own. You don't need Skills Wiki to use it.

If you want more skills and ready-made skill combos, you can connect hosted Skills Wiki. Hosted Skills Wiki is a paid service with an account. During setup, TaskFollow asks whether you want to connect it. Say yes and paste your MCP URL, which ends in /mcp. TaskFollow then stores your key in your computer's keychain with taskfollow secret skillswiki, so the key never goes into the chat.

If you already have a Skills Wiki account, your MCP URL and key are on the Setup page.

Try it

TaskFollow is free, runs on your computer, and needs no sign-up. Everything you need to get started, including the install prompt with a copy button, is on the TaskFollow page.
